
Prof. Heidi Abrahamse (PhD)
Prof. Heidi Abrahamse BSc (RAU), BSc
Honours Biochemistry and Psychology (US, UNISA), MSc (US),
PhD Molecular biology (Wits), was born in Klerksdorp, South
Africa and graduated from the University of the
Witwatersrand in 1997. She has been associated
with several tertiary education institutions, where she has
contributed by conducting and establishing management
research structures and compiling policy documents for
research. She serves on several research-related
university committees including the Academic Ethics and
Research Committees. She has lectured several undergraduate
as well as post-graduate courses and currently manages the
Laser Research Group in the Faculty of Health Sciences at
the University of Johannesburg. She has graduated more than 25
post-graduate students, published more than 30 peer reviewed
international research papers and hold grants for research
from several national research funding bodies. She
holds membership to several international societies (WALT,
SASBMB, ASBMB; ASCB, SPIE) and acts as reviewer for several
funding bodies and international journals. Her research
areas of interest include cell transduction of cancer, wound
healing, stem cell differentiation and phototherapy.
