
Anu Mäkelä
Anu Mäkelä graduated with honors from the
medical and healthcare sciences department of Australian
National University (Canberra, Australia) in 1984 and in
addition to research, has been working with patients since
graduation. Currently she is the dean of Acupuncture and
Bioenergy Research Institute (Helsinki, Finland), Professor of
Biochemistry, Member of Russian Medical Laser Academy, President
of European Medical Laser Association (EMLA), and Editor of EMLA-Laser
Health Journal.
Anu Mäkelä has doctorate degrees in medicine
(electrophysiology), biochemistry, nutrition, traditional
Chinese medicine, including acupuncture and traditional herbal
medicine. She started to work with low level lasers in 1982 and
helped in the development of the first in the world He-Ne based
electro-laser acupuncture system, which was ready in 1983. She
also developed and patented an electro-laser therapy method,
which is based on electrophysiological evaluation of the
condition of acupuncture points and simultaneous influence of
laser light and electricity on acupuncture points. She has
written several books and numerous research articles on
biochemistry, lasers, acupuncture, oncology and electrotherapy.
